PTWFC February Player of the Month

With three crucial league matches and the chance to get into a cup quarter-final, February was always going to be a huge month for Partick Thistle Women’s FC. Park’s Motor Group SWPL 1 games against Hamilton, Spartans and Hearts represented important fixtures in the race to avoid relegation and with Brian Graham’s side taking seven points from three games, it was a very healthy return. Throw in a Scottish Women’s Cup win and it made for a very enjoyable month overall for the Jags.

There were plenty of standout performances over the course of the four matches but only one player can win the PTWFC Player of the Month award and we need your help to decide who wins the prize!

Rachel Donaldson

The latest addition to the PTWFC squad has wasted no time in becoming an important part of the Jags’ attack. Donaldson played the full 90 minutes as a trialist in the team’s 1-0 win over Hamilton before making her first appearance as a fully-fledged Jag in the 2-2 draw with Spartans, scoring Thistle’s first goal. She followed that up with another impressive performance against Hearts as she set up Teigan McCann’s late goal which made it 4-2.

Cara McBrearty

Thistle’s creator-in-chief had another stellar month in red and yellow as she racked up five assists and a goal across the four games. A convincing penalty kick to open the scoring against Boroughmuir Thistle started her goal involvements for February before she went on to get two assists in the 2-2 draw against Spartans. McBrearty’s good form continued into our 4-2 win over Hearts as three of her set pieces led to goals in the vital clash at The Oriam.

Rosie Slater

Defender Rosie Slater, who turned 18 this month, had a fantastic February in a couple of different roles. The on-loan full-back played on the left and right-hand side of the defence over the course of our four matches and put in exemplary performances wherever she featured. Her best game probably came against Hamilton when her defending was fantastic and she came inches away from scoring an magnificent goal from 25 yards out.

Linzi Taylor

February was Linzi Taylor’s first full month as a Thistle player and it’s fair to say she’s settled in quite nicely so far. The number 17 had a goal or an assists in each of the four games last month starting with an assist to set up Clare Docherty’s winner against Hamilton Accies. She then won a penalty against Boroughmuir Thistle before scoring her first goal for the club against Spartans. Linzi rounded of February with another goal, against Hearts, as Thistle bounced back quickly from an early Jambos goal.
