Special edition of matchday programme for Motherwell game

Tomorrow’s Partick Thistle matchday programme is a special edition with tribute being paid to Jags goalscoring centurion Kris Doolan, reaching the coveted landmark last Saturday against Ross County.

In a week where a Firhill favourite wrote his name into the Thistle history books the feature interview could really only be with one man, Mr 100, Kris Doolan.

Dools learnt his trade playing for Auchinleck Talbot but even for him those days feel like a distant memory now.

“My Junior days feels like a long, long way off. From where I have come from, to look back and see how far I’ve come is amazing. I’ve come up through just about every league in Scotland pretty much and to be scoring so many goals in the Ladbrokes Premiership is a dream come true. What’s more, to do it here where I feel comfortable and I’m happy is really what it’s all about.

“I remember my first training session actually, Mark Roberts nutmegged me and Ian McCall shouted “welcome to senior football”. That was after about five minutes and it really opened my eyes to how good some of the players were at that point. You looked around the dressing room and saw Simon Donnelly and Mark Roberts and Liam Buchanan and the gaffer of course, there were a lot of players who had established themselves throughout their careers.

“I remember thinking “right Doolsy Boy, you need to up your game here!” Luckily for me I had a few reserve games and scored in all of them I think. That combined with the fact that I trained well and put everything into it meant I got a contract and never looked back.”

Read the full and exclusive interview with Kris Doolan ONLY in tomorrow’s official Matchday programme. On sale at the game.
