Spittal: It’s time for actions

Blair Spittal admits it’s time for actions and not words as Thistle travel to Rugby Park to take on Kilmarnock in an important Ladbrokes Premiership fixture.

The midfielder is looking to take the positives from the last game against Hibs and improve on them but knows it’s about time the squad do their talking on the pitch.

Speaking to ptfc.co.uk, he said: “After last week’s result we were disappointed. I thought we performed well in patches and put them under some pressure in the second half, we just couldn’t take anything from the game.

“This Saturday gives us a chance to put things right. It gives us the chance to take the positives and put right the things which we didn’t do too well. However, there is only so many times we can say that.

“There is only so often we can say we will do things better or work on things, we have to start picking up results. It is an important month for the club and we have to pick up as many points as we can.”

The loss to Hibs last weekend left Thistle marooned at the bottom of the table and Blair knows they can’t afford to slip further behind.

“It’s important we keep in touch with the teams round about us, we are playing teams in and around us in the league this month and we need to make sure we get positive results.

“We have to look to take the three points on Saturday, Kilmarnock are above us in the league and it’s important we don’t let them get further ahead, we have to go to Rugby Park and bring back the win.”

After a week which saw victories over Dundee and St Johnstone sandwich a draw with Hamilton, Spittal knows results have hit the buffers again. However, he feels they can get back on track.

“We had a few good results then let ourselves down against Rangers at Ibrox. We played well against Hibs and played some of the better football than we have in games before that but didn’t get any points.

“We have to strike the balance between playing well and getting points and at this stage it is vital we get the points any way we can.

“With so many games coming up, it’s massive that we start to win matches. It’s important we build momentum in this month and get ourselves in a better position come the winter break at the end of the month.

“We have seen already this season that things can change quickly with a few results and we have to stay positive and try and get onto a run like that and see where it can take us.”

The Jags number 7 knows it’s important to stay positive and retain belief.

““It’s important we go into the game on Saturday positive and believing we can win. We have confidence within the squad and that’s important in games like this. It’s a big game and we have to be mentally ready for things.”

Despite a packed December, November was a barren month in terms of games, while it was frustrating, Blair is only looking forward.

“It was frustrating having so few games in November, we wanted to be out there playing football but we can’t use that as an excuse for the way things are. We have to be ready to go out and win matches and get ourselves out the position we find ourselves.”

Spittal scored a number of goals at the start of the season but has found them harder to come by recently but he hopes to hit the goal trail again.

“I’ve been annoyed that I haven’t taken the chances that have fallen to me, I’ve got on the end of some and maybe the luck hasn’t been on my side like it was at the start of the season. Hopefully I can start getting a few more goals and help the team on to some victories.”
