Football fans in training is back!
The Partick Thistle Community Trust 12 week programme returns for both male and, for the first time, females. The aim is to provide a community based healthy living and weight management interventions. Each class is delivered at Firhill Stadium and provides exercise guidance, support and nutritional information by an exercise professional.
The main aims of the programme are to:
® Increase knowledge of diet & nutrition
® Improve lifestyle choices
® Increase physical activity amongst participants
® Reduce weight and waist measurements
® Increase engagement in other physical activity
The previous programmes have not only resulted in a lot of weight loss, but it has improved several aspects of the previous participant’s lives. This is re-iterated by Ian Anderson.
Ian said that in mid 2014 he was diagnosed with Non Alcoholic Fatty Liver disease for which the main remedy is weight loss. “I tried and failed on my own devices and postponed my return hospital appointment at the end of 2014 due to embarrassment at actually having put more weight on. In stepped the FFIT programme.”
“Not only was the exercise helping me lose weight but my self confidence and my mental well being improved. The motivation to succeed was heightened by the camaraderie among our FFIT group.”
“Over the course of the programme I lost 14.5 kg and also lost 14.5cm off my waist line.”
Ever since finishing the FFIT Ian continues to play 7 a side football with the guys he met during the programme.
The programme has enabled Ian to raise over £1000 for cancer research by taking part in the Great Scottish Run. Ian also achieved a lifetime goal by climbing Ben Lomond because of the weight lost during the FFIT programme.
