Fan Ownership Explained

How Fan Ownership works:

Partick Thistle Football Club is majority fan-owned, meaning that the club belongs to its supporters. This model places the club’s long-term interests above profit, ensuring transparency, sustainability, and community involvement. Through The Jags Foundation and The Jags Trust as trustees of the PTFC Trust, fans have a voice in governance and contribute to the club’s strategic direction. Fan ownership focuses on sustainable growth, with investments aimed at strengthening the club’s community ties and future stability. Supporters are encouraged to actively participate, whether by offering feedback, joining the fan groups or volunteering, helping to ensure that Partick Thistle thrives for generations to come.

What the Trustees do:

The Trustees act as guardians of Partick Thistle’s values and long-term stability, ensuring that the club’s governance reflects the interests of its supporters. They oversee the club’s adherence to fan ownership principles, promoting accountability and protecting the club’s heritage. Trustees work closely with the Board to ensure transparent decision-making and uphold the standards expected by the fan base. Their role is essential in fostering trust between the club and its supporters, reinforcing the community’s voice in shaping Partick Thistle’s future.

What the Board and Management do:

The Board of Directors provides strategic leadership at Partick Thistle, focusing on the club’s long-term vision, financial health, and operational goals. The Chairman, currently Richard Beastall, leads the board in setting this direction, while the General Manager oversees day-to-day operations and ensures that the club runs smoothly. Senior management supports the General Manager across key areas like commercial activities, media, facilities and football operations. Together, the Board and management work to achieve sustainable growth and stability, always prioritising transparency and alignment with the values of fan ownership.

What the Supporter-Nominated Directors do:

Supporter-nominated directors at Partick Thistle represent the interests of supporters at Board level, ensuring that decisions align with the values of fan ownership. They work as custodians of the club’s mission, promoting transparency, accountability, and adherence to Partick Thistle’s long-term goals. By bridging the gap between supporters and the Board, these directors help to keep club governance open and inclusive, reinforcing a sense of community and trust. Their role is vital in maintaining the integrity of the fan-owned model and upholding standards for sustainable club growth.

What the Working Groups do:

Partick Thistle’s working groups provide supporters with an opportunity to influence key areas of the club’s operation: initially Finance, Governance and Supporter Engagement, with the potential for more groups to be launched at a later date. These groups consist of volunteers with relevant expertise who collaborate with club leadership to offer insights and help to shape the Board’s long-term strategy. The work of these groups strengthens transparency and ensures that the interests of fans are embedded in decision-making. By participating in these groups, supporters can make a meaningful impact, helping ensure that Partick Thistle remains a sustainable, fan-focused club.

What Supporters do:

Supporters are at the heart of Partick Thistle’s fan-owned model, actively shaping the club’s direction and culture. Through The Jags Foundation and The Jags Trust, fans contribute to club initiatives, community projects, and volunteer opportunities. Supporters can attend events, provide feedback, and participate in working groups to directly impact club policy and decision-making. This involvement strengthens the club’s commitment to transparency and ensures that fans remain integral to Partick Thistle’s identity and future success.
